Seyyed Nasr, Philosopher and Educator has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in religious studies.

Dr. Nasr is one of the most renowned names in religious studies and has been the recipient of numerous accolades for his work. As early as 1963, he was recognized with the Royal Book Award of Iran. In 2010, Dr. Nasr was awarded the International Gittler Prize from Brandeis University. He has also been honored as the first Muslim to speak at the Gifford Lecture and as the first non-Western thinker to be included in the Library of Living Philosophers. Dr. Nasr has been inspired to pursue his profession since he was a child, having had the privilege of growing up in a highly educated and ambitious family. His father was one of the top scholars in Iran, and after he became ill, Dr. Nasr came to the United States, attended a famous prep school and mastered the English language. He earned a Bachelor of Science in physics and mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954 and continued at Harvard University to earn a Master of Science in geology and geophysics in 1956 and a PhD in history of science and philosophy. Furthermore, Dr. Nasr has received honorary doctorates from the University of Uppsala and Lehigh University.

Since 1984, Dr. Nasr has leveraged his skills and expertise as a professor of Islamic studies at George Washington University. Prior to this teaching engagement, he served as a professor of religion at Temple University, the Aga Khan Professor of Islamic Studies at the American University in Beirut, as a professor of history of science and philosophy at Tehran University and as a teaching assistant at Harvard University. Furthermore, he taught as the A.D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University from 1991 to 1997. Among many lectureships and memberships, Dr. Nasr is the Founder and President of the Iranian Academy of Philosophy and previously provided his guidance as the President of Aryamehr University. In addition to his prolific career as an educator, he is considered the Grandfather of the Environmental Movement.
