Diane Gavin has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English, humanities and higher education administration.

Dr. Gavin first started working in media but found her way to teaching as education had always been a passion for her. Since 2018, she has utilized her skills and expertise as an educator as the Department Chair of Communications and Learning at St. Philip’s College. She previously worked for eight years as the Program Dean for Research at the College of Doctoral Studies at the University of Phoenix. From 2009 to 2010, Dr. Gavin worked as the Director of the University Writing Program at East Carolina University. She began teaching at Rowan University in 1994 and picked up additional roles as a site director and full professor during her tenure at the institution. Earlier in her academic career, Dr. Gavin was an instructor at Syracuse University, the State University of New York at Oswego and the Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. When Dr. Gavin began her career working in media, she was a copywriter and media buyer for JCHD Advantage in New York and an educational marketer for Jones Colad, Inc.

In her own academic pursuits, Dr. Gavin first earned a Bachelor of Science in media and communications from Medaille College in 1980. She continued at the State University of New York at Oswego to receive an MEd in secondary English and later earned a Master of Arts in linguistic analysis and a PhD in American literature from Syracuse University. In 2015, Dr. Gavin received a Master of Science in higher education administration from Drexel University. In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Gavin has received a Certificate of Leadership from the Alamo Leadership Academy for Success from Alamo College, the President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Operations from the University of Phoenix and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Her award from the University of Phoenix was because of her redesign of the online doctoral program for dissertation students. Many of her students had gone on to do their doctorates, movies and play professional sports. She considers the greatest highlight of her career thus far to be her time at Rowan University, where she was the founding director and principal designer for their masters of arts and writing programs.
