Linda Wallinga Bach, Retired Lead Special Education Teacher at Cherryvale Elementary School has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.

Ms. Bach was inspired to pursue special education by her church youth leader, who taught at the Iowa School for the Deaf. Ever since she witnessed the kind, caring, and compassionate demeanor of her leader, all she ever wanted to do was become a special education teacher. Ms. Bach pursued a formal education at the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Education in 1975. In the following years, she acquired a master’s in early childhood education at the University of South Carolina.

Ms. Bach began her career as a substitute teacher at the Omaha Public Schools in Nebraska. As her career progressed, she continued to act as a substitute in local school districts until she was hired as a special education teacher. In 1983, she was brought onto the staff of DeLaine Elementary School in Sumter, South Carolina. She remained there until 1985, which is when she relocated to Oakland Elementary School. She successfully carried out her role there until 1996. In the following years, she worked at Rafting Creek Elementary School. It was not until 2001 that she was hired at Cherryvale Elementary School as a lead special education teacher. There, she brought happiness to every student with whom she worked until she retired in 2019.

In light of her accomplishments, Ms. Bach has earned many awards. These include, but are not limited to, Teacher of the Year and Distinguished Reading Teacher of the Year from Rafting Creek Elementary School in 1999, as well as Teacher of the Year from Cherryvale Elementary School in 2004. In the years since her retirement, she has been teaching home-bound special education students and volunteering in a second-grade classroom once a week.
