Lavonne Johnson, Adjunct Faculty, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in communications.
Upon graduating high school in 1964, Ms. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in radio, television, and film production from Indiana University in 1968. Soon thereafter, she completed postgraduate coursework in scriptwriting, Arabic, screenplay writing, and education administration at the New School of Social Research, Burlington County College, the University of Pennsylvania, and Temple University, from 1983 to 1995. In 2006, she concluded her academic efforts with a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University in 2006.
At the start of her career, Ms. Johnson worked as an editor and director for NFL Films Inc., in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in 1968. Four years later, she joined Sportsfilm, Inc., as an executive director for a year before rejoining NFL Films, from 1980 to 1981. Consequently, she joined Creative Images Advertising as an account executive for a year, before assuming employment with Mort Barish Advertising as a senior account executive further progressing to the vice president until 1983. For the next decade and a half, Ms. Johnson held executive positions with LBJ Communications, New York Times Cable TV, Archway Programs, Holt, Ross & Yulish, Inc., Video Communications Resources, and Sports Marketing & News Inc.
More recently, she has contributed as a construction official in Edgewater Park, New Jersey. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Johnson taught public speaking at Burlington County College and worked as a web-services and public information officer for the New Jersey Department of Human Services between 2002 and 2014. From 1996 to 2003, she served as a mayor, deputy mayor, and councilwoman for the Township of Willingboro, New Jersey. Achievements to her credit include assisting the redesign and content update for the New Jersey Department of Human Services website as well as serving as the first female editor at NFL Films. During her spare time, she enjoys movies, books, politics, gardening and international relations in her spare time.
