Victor Wong, Faculty at George I. Sanchez Charter High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology education.

Dr. Wong’s family immigrated to the United States from Cuba, which made him the designated English teacher to his family members. He saw the impact his teaching had on them, which inspired him to pursue a career in education. After earning an Associate of Arts from Blinn College, he went on to Texas Southern University, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science in premedical studies/biology and medical technology. In 2003, he completed a teacher certification program at the university, which set him up to earn a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction. In the following years, he continued to further his education with a master’s in history and then a Doctor of Education.

Dr. Wong began teaching at the Catholic Charities School Systems in 1992, though he shortly relocated to George I. Sanchez Charter High School. He remains there today as an instructor, though he worked on and off with the Houston Community College along the way. From 1988 until 1992, he was an instructor, documentarian, instructional supervisor, and field supervisor. In 2005, he returned to the college again as adjunct faculty, though he stepped down in 2010 to focus full time on his responsibilities at George I. Sanchez Charter High School.

In light of his accomplishments, Dr. Wong was inducted into the National Association of Biology Teachers. He was additionally named Teacher of the Year in 2005, and then again consecutively from 2017 to 2019. He believes his success is a direct result of his passion for teaching. He loves working with his students to help them succeed not only in their future careers but in their lives as a whole. He believes he was put on this earth to make a difference for future generations, which keeps him motivated to continue helping the many students who come into his classroom.
