Sebastian Sora, Retired Manager at IBM, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in computer science.
A graduate of Brooklyn College, Dr. Sora earned a Bachelor of Science in 1964. Ten years later, he received a master of Business Administration from Iona College. He continued his education with the aforementioned school and secured a post master’s certificate in 1976. Dr. Sora concluded his academic efforts with a Doctor of Professional Studies from Pace University in 1989.
At the start of his career, he worked as a mathematics modeler for Associated Universities Inc., for two years until 1966. Soon thereafter, he joined IBM, where he served as manager of programming from 1966 to 1967 and again between 1970 and 1975. During this time, Dr. Sora also contributed as an employee of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey for three years. As he progressed with IBM, Dr. Sora held several executive positions throughout New York and the Federal Republic of Germany from 1975 to 2015. Simultaneously, he also taught as an associate professor at Montclair State College from 1992 to 1995.
In the past, Dr. Sora taught at numerous institutions, including his alma maters, as well as Marymount College, Adelphi University, Manhattan College, and Long Island University. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1967. The highlight of his career was being on the first computer control ship in the navy to develop the computers of Westinghouse. Now retired, he enjoys gardening and working with flowers in his spare time.
