Joseph J. Zambon, DDS, PhD, Dean and SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dental education and academic administration.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Zambon completed a Bachelor of Science in biology at St. John Fisher College in 1973. Subsequently, he served as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1978, which helped fund his continuing education. He completed a DDS in dental medicine at the University at Buffalo in 1974 and was a general practice resident at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital from 1974 to 1975. After completing his service, Dr. Zambon worked as a research fellow at the University at Buffalo for four years, returning to service in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander from 1982 to 1988, during which he completed a PhD in microbiology at the University at Buffalo in 1984. After several years of experience as an assistant and later an associate professor of periodontics and oral biology at the University at Buffalo, he accepted a position as the director of advanced education in periodontology at the institution, which he held for five years.

From 1990 to 2008, Dr. Zambon held the designation of a full professor of periodontology and oral biology at the University at Buffalo, and additionally served as an associate dean of academic affairs from 1995 to 2010. Currently, he is a SUNY distinguished teaching professor of periodontology and oral biology, periodontics and endodontics at the University at Buffalo, a title he earned in 2008, and since 2016, he has worked as the dean of the School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Zambon holds several professional certifications, in addition to his primary academic degrees, and has been a prolific contributor of written work to professional journals, papers and books in his field. As a testament to his success and stature, Dr. Zambon has been selected for inclusion in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He is proud of his family and in the coming years, he looks forward to retiring and spending time with his wife.
