With more than 40 years of professional education, Ms. Blunt has been an educator and teacher at Granville T. Woods Elementary School since 2010, having also been a special education teacher since 2005. Earlier in her career, she was a teacher within the Jefferson Parish Public School System from 1978 to 2005. In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Blunt has served as chair of the black history program and a student council advisor from 1998 to 2004, a member of the special education advisory council of Jefferson Parish from 1995 to 2005, and community liaison and chair of the literacy night program and the Mardi Gras Ball fundraiser.
Ms. Blunt first pursued an education at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. She continued her studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati, earning a Master of Arts in special education in 1982. She then joined Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, completing postgraduate coursework in 1986. Ms. Blunt is a member of the National Association of University Women and the Jefferson Federal Teacher Union. For her contributions to the field, she was named Reading Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Reading Council, Walmart Teacher of the Year and a Metairie Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator.
