Donna M. Meeks, Professor and Art Chair at Lamar University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in art.
With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Meeks has been a professor and the chair of the art department at Lamar University since 1995. Prior to obtaining her current positions, she was the director of education at the American Academy of Art from 1993 to 1995, a curator of education at the Tarble Arts Center and an art instructor at Eastern Illinois University from 1987 to 1993. From 1986 to 1987, she was a substitute teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools and, from 1985 to 1986, she was a professor assistant at the University of Wisconsin, having been a teaching assistant since 1984. Earlier in her career, Ms. Meeks was a graduate assistant at the University of Louisville from 1982 to 1984.
Ms. Meeks first pursued and education at the University of Louisville, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in drawing, with honors, in 1982. She continued her studies at the school, completing a Master of Arts in teaching in 1984. She then joined the University of Wisconsin, earning a Master of Fine Arts in painting in 1986. Ms. Meeks has been certified as an art teacher for K-12 and an English teacher for grades 7-12. She is a member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the National Council of Arts Administrators and the College Art Association.
