With 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Murray has been a professor of psychology at the University of California Riverside since 1980. In addition to her academic role, she was the founder and executive director of the University STEM Academy, and is the founder and director of the University Film Academy. Additionally, Dr. Murray is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Western Psychological Association, the Psychology for the Study of Personality and Social Psychology, and the Association of Black Psychologists.

Dr. Murray first pursued an education at Wayne State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology in 1971. She then joined the University of Michigan, completing a Master of Science in psychology in 1979. She continued her studies at the school, earning a PhD in psychology in 1979. For her contributions to the field, Dr. Murray received the Dr. William Montague Cobb Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Distinguished Teacher Award from the University of California Riverside and the Community Engagement Award.
