Susan A. MacManus, PhD, Distinguished University Professor Emerita at the University of South Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in Florida politics.
Focusing on women in minority politics, Dr. MacManus is a Distinguished University Professor Emerita of the University of South Florida, previously serving the university in a number of roles. She began her professional career as an instructor at Valencia College in 1969, remaining in this role for four years before becoming a research assistant at Florida State University from 1973 to 1975. She then joined the University of Houston as an assistant professor from 1975 to 1979 and an associate professor from 1979 to 1984, as well as director of the Master of Public Administration program for one year. After a two-year stint as a professor at Cleveland State University, she joined the University of South Florida, where she spent the remainder of her career. Serving in myriad other posts throughout the years, Dr. MacManus pursued a formal education at Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in government, cum laude with honors, in 1968. She then attended the University of Michigan, where she received a Master of Arts in political science in 1969, before returning to her alma mater to attain a PhD in political science in 1975.
Highly active in her local community, Dr. MacManus has contributed numerous written works. Florida’s most-quoted political scientist, she maintains involvement with multiple organizations related to her field. The recipient of various honors and accolades, Dr. MacManus received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who publications. Moving forward, she will continue to do political analysis. Despite being retired, she still performs public presentations.
