Anthony Moten, Principal of Fortis Academy in the Harris County Department of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public education and educational administration.

In preparation for his career, Mr. Moten attended Langston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education/fitness in 1987. He continued his education with an MEd in educational leadership and administration from the Texas Agricultural & Mechanical University-Commerce in 2011, and accepted a position as the principal of the West Orange-Stark Middle School in the Cover Consolidated Independent School District, where he remained until 2017. Since his departure, Mr. Moten has excelled in his current post as the principal of Fortis Academy in the Harris County Department of Education. He has also found success through his creative work, including conducting a phenomenological study of superintendents’ and school board presidents’ perceptions related to the influence of school boards on school district performance.

Mr. Moten has maintained affiliation to numerous professional organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of Black School Educators and the Texas Association of Secondary Schools, among others. He believes that change takes courage, and he aims to be the “steward of the people’s trust.” He considers the highlight of his career to be the lives he has been able to change, and the children he has helped to realize their dreams. Mr. Moten has always tried to get children to see things in themselves that they didn’t see before, and in the coming years he would like to see the model he has established expand across the globe, helping students who are addicted to substances to recover and find success in their lives.
