Gina J. Wohlford, PhD, Superintendent at Norton City Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in early childhood education.
With more than a decade of professional experience in academic administration, Dr. Wohlford has excelled as the superintendent of Norton City Schools since 2017. At the start of her tenure with the district, she worked as an assistant principal from 2009 to 2013, later to a full principal for another four years. Dr. Wohlford was inspired to pursue her career in education by a fourth-grade teacher, who taught Virginia history. The relationships that she built with students is what drew her to the profession. Although she did not know that is what her teacher was doing at the time, she was aware that her teacher made her feel like she wasn’t just another student.
A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Dr. Wohlford earned a PhD in 2018, further receiving a superintendent license. Her career highlight to date as superintendent was her ability to bring extra early childhood programs into their school division with innovations in project-based learning. Civically, she has volunteered for United Way and is a member of the board of directors for the Women Education Leaders in Virginia. In the coming years, Dr. Wohlford would like to continue a career in education, but potentially as another title.
