Rodger Koppa, Associate Professor Emeritus, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics education.

Dr. Koppa initially wanted to become an astrophysicist. However, one of his physics professors at the University of Texas brought his attention to the field of psychophysics. It was an area of experimental psychology, which piqued his interest. With a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree, he embarked on a journey to explore the field. From 1961 until 1967, Dr. Koppa worked as a human factors engineer at LTV Aerospace Corporation in Dallas, Texas. He later transitioned to the Texas Transportation Institute as an assistant research psychologist. There, one of his superiors suggested pursuing a  Doctor of Philosophy in industrial engineering. Dr. Koppa took his advice and attended Texas A&M University, where he successfully graduated in 1979.

In 1982, Dr. Koppa began teaching as an associate professor at Texas A&M University. He found much success in this position. In 2000, he received the Trinity Industries’ Career Achievement Award in recognition of his accomplishments. He believes his success resonates with his genuine love for teaching, as he truly enjoys working with and being there for his students. He fondly looks back on his time as an engineer, especially his time working on the Apollo 13 Space Program. In 2019, Dr. Koppa was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award as a testament to his professional success.
