With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Idle has excelled as a professor at Long Island University since 2017. Prior to obtaining his current role, he worked as a professor at the University of Bern from 2009 to 2017, Charles University from 2004 to 2009 and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology from 1995 to 2004. Also serving as the executive director of Nivy Blacksmith Music from 1999 to 2004, Dr. Idle previously held a number of positions with the University of Newcastle, including the chair of pharmaceutical science from 1993 to 1995, the head of clinical medical science from 1992 to 1995 and a professor from 1988 to 1995.
From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Idle found success as a pharmacogenetics reader with the University of London. From 1983 to 1985, he flourished as a Wellcome Trust senior lecturer at Saint Mary’s Hospital Medical School, where he had been active as a lecturer since 1976. Earlier in his career, he had garnered valuable expertise as a research chemist with Wander, Ltd., in 1972 and a technician with Geigy, Ltd., in 1971. In addition to his primary roles, Dr. Idle has contributed as a consultant of laboratory metabolism NCI for the National Institutes of Health, a visiting professor with the University of Bern and a chief executive of Genotype, Ltd.
