William Holzemer, PhD, Dean, and Distinguished Professor at the Rutgers University School of Nursing, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses and Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare.
With nearly 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Holzemer has been dean and a distinguished professor at the Rutgers University School of Nursing since 2009 and a distinguished professor with St. Luke’s College of Nursing since 1986. He has also been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of California, San Francisco, since 2009, having been a professor and associate dean of research since 1979. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant professor with the University of Illinois, Chicago, from 1975 to 1979. In addition to his primary roles, he is the editor in chief of the Japan Journal of Nursing Science, and he has served as a visiting professor with the University of Turku and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Dr. Holzemer first pursued an education with the University of Washington, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1967. He continued his studies with Miami University, completing a Master of Science education in counseling in 1968. He then joined Syracuse University, earning a PhD in higher education in administration in 1975. He later received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from San Francisco State University in 1985, where he was also certified as a registered nurse.
