Ruth Swaim, Former Mathematics Teacher for Los Angeles City Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching.
With more than 55 years of professional experience, Ms. Swaim was a mathematics teacher for the Los Angeles City Schools from 1984 to 2007, having been a math laboratory instructor with the district since 1975. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was a math teacher with Dewey Public Schools from 1965 to 1967 and with Bartlesville Public Schools from 1963 to 1965. Earlier in her career, she was a mathematics teacher with Norman Public Schools in 1963, having been a mathematics substitute teacher for the United States Navy Military Dependent at Sangley Port from 1961 to 1963.
Ms. Swaim first pursued an education with the University of Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in education in 1965. A respected voice in her areas of interest, she has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Education Association, the California Teachers Association, and Kappa Delta Pi. She has been certified as a secondary education teacher in the states of Oklahoma and California.
