Title: Social Studies Department Chairman
Company: Carlisle Area School District
Location: Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States
Kevin Allen Wagner, Social Studies Department Chairman at the Carlisle Area School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of social studies education.
In high school, Mr. Wagner had an incredible civics teacher, Cynthia Golden. She was clever and creative with her approach to teaching, and she never failed to get Mr. Wagner and his classmates interested in a topic. After seeing the impact she could make with a simple lesson, he knew that he wanted to become a teacher. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in social studies from Messiah College and followed it up with a master’s degree in educational leadership from Shippensburg University. With a steadfast determination and the necessary credentials, Mr. Wagner quickly made an impact in the world of education.
In 1997, Mr. Wagner began working for the Carlisle Area School District. He remains there today as an advanced placement teacher and the chair of the social studies department. Through his many years of experience, he has learned that teaching is not all about what is being taught, but instead about how it is taught. He believes this realization makes all the difference in his classroom. Mr. Wagner is consistently rewarded when former students come to visit and tell him how he inspired them to pursue a field they once thought was impossible. These visits are the highlights of his career.
Outside of his primary roles, Mr. Wagner is a member of the National Council of History Education, the Organization of American Historians, and the American Historical Association, among several other professional societies. He is on the board of the Pennsylvania Council for Social Studies, and he additionally participates annually on the advisory board for Pennsylvania National History Day. In 2014, he was honored as the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year in recognition of his achievements. More recently, he was celebrated as the Teacher of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Awards in 2019. As a further testament to his success, Mr. Wagner is featured in the 8th edition of Who’s Who in America.
