Claris Jones, PhD, Professor Emeritus of California State University, Fullerton, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Jones has been recognized as a professor emeritus of California State University School of Natural Science and Mathematics since 2010. Prior to his retirement, he was a professor of botany from 1977 to 2010, having been an associate professor since 1973 and an assistant professor since 1969. In addition to his primary roles, he served as director of the Faye McFadden Herbarium from 1969 to 2010, founding director of the Fullerton Arboretum from 1970 to 1980, and chair of biological science from 1989 to 2004.
Dr. Jones first pursued an education with Ohio University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1964. He continued his studies with Indiana University, earning a PhD in 1969. A respected voice in his areas of interest, he has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the American Institute of Biological Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Botanical Society of America. He has also been active with the International Association of Plant Taxonomy, the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, the Society for the Study of Evolution, the Systematics Association, the Ecological Society of America, the California Botanical Society, and Sigma Xi.
