James White, Law Educator and Professor Emeritus at Indiana University Law School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the law.

An accomplished professional with decades of experience in the law, Mr. White began preparing for his career at the University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1953. He continued his academic pursuits at the university, graduating with a JD in 1956, and subsequently served in the United States Air Force as a 1st lieutenant and a captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps until 1958. Mr. White was admitted to practice law by the Iowa State Bar Association in 1956, the District of Columbia Bar in 1959 and the United States Supreme Court in 1959. In addition, he earned an LLM from George Washington University in 1959, where he garnered experience as a teaching fellow before accepting a position as an assistant professor at the University of North Dakota Law School. In 1962, he served the institution as an associate professor and acting dean, and rose to the rank of a full professor and assistant dean the following year, which he held until 1967.

Mr. White subsequently started as a law professor and the director of the agricultural law research program at the Indiana University Law School, where he taught for 35 years, until 2002. He held multiple additional positions during his tenure at the university, including working as the dean of the academy of development and planning, the special assistant to the chancellor and the director of the urban legal studies program. Since 2002, Mr. White has held the designation of a professor emeritus. Among his myriad career achievements, he is proudest of directing the American Bars education activities for more than 25 years. When the Iron Curtain came down, the American Bars started helping courts and lawyers with the task of re-instituting the rule of law in central Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia. He maintains affiliation with numerous professional organizations including the Society for Advanced Legal Studies, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation, the American Bar Association and the Order of the Coif, among others. As a further testament to his success, Mr. White has been selected for inclusion in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in American Law.
