Dr. Billy Gober, Former Director of Educational Services at SPORTIME, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in athletics.
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Gober contributed his skills and expertise as the director of educational services at SPORTIME from 1990 to 2000. Prior to this, he served as the instructional coordinator with DeKalb County Schools since 1975. In addition to his primary roles, he has been an adjunct professor at Georgia State University since 1985 and taught at East Tennessee State University from 2002 to 2003. Prior to obtaining these positions, he was an instructional supervisor of physical education with Cobb County Schools from 1973 to 1975 and an assistant professor at Temple University from 1972 to 1973.
From 1967 to 1972, Dr. Gober was a researcher on the physical education faculty of the University of Georgia R&D Center for Educational Stimulation, and he was the coordinator of health, physical education, and athletics at DeKalb County Schools from 1965 to 1967. Earlier in his career, he was a physical education teacher and football and gymnastics coach with Briarcliff High School from 1963 to 1965 and a physical education specialist with Oak Grove Elementary School from 1960 to 1963.
Dr. Gober first pursued an education with the University of Georgia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in education in 1960. He continued his studies with the school, completing a Master of Education in 1964, later earning a Doctor of Education as a specialist in education in 1971. In addition to being a member of the Bells Ferry Civics Association, he has been certified as a teacher and supervisor in the state of Georgia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gober has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Health and Physical Education from the Recreation and Dance Alumni Association, he was given the State Honor Award by the Georgia Association of Health. He also received the Service Award for the Outdoor and Environmental Education Program. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who’s Who in American Education.
