Marie Otto, Superintendent Emeritus of Huntington Beach Union School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in administration.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Otto has been recognized as superintendent emeritus of Huntington Beach Union School District since 1988. Prior to her retirement, she was superintendent of the district from 1984 to 1988, having been assistant superintendent since 1980. From 1974 to 1980, she was a project manager and director of pupil personnel, and from 1969 to 1974, she was a psychologist. Earlier in her career, she was a counselor with Neff High School from 1966 to 1969, a teacher and counsel with Excelsior High School from 1964 to 1966, and a high school teacher from 1956 to 1964.
Ms. Otto first pursued an education with Hardin-Simmons University, where she completed coursework. She then joined Texas Christian University and she completed coursework with North Texas State University. She studied at Sul-Ross State University, the University of Wyoming, and the University of California Santa Barbara. She also completed coursework with California State University Long Beach, Golden West College, California State University Northridge, and California State University Fullerton. She is licensed as a teacher in the state of Texas, a secondary teacher in the states of Wyoming and California, and she is a licensed psychologist and marriage and family counselor.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Otto has been affiliated with a number of organizations in her community. The former vice president of Poole-Young-Koehler Associates, Inc., she leveraged these skills and expertise to become the president of her own firm, Marie Otto Associates and held a private practice as a marriage and family counselor. She has served as a supervisor of student teachers with Chapman University Orange, and as secretary-treasurer of the Center for Teaching Thinking.
Throughout her career, Ms. Otto has been recognized for her contributions. The recipient of numerous plaques from the Fountain Valley Humans Services Committee, she has also been honored by the City of Fountain Valley, the City of Huntington Beach, the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce, the City of Westminster, and Orange Coast College. She was also given awards by the Ocean View School District and the Special Education Local Plan Organizations, and the Soroptimist Club named her Woman of the Year. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
