Title: Educator (Retired)
Location: Laurel, Maryland, United States
Janice Bland Loftus, Retired Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health and physical education.
Ms. Loftus comes from a family of teachers. Because of this, she always had a feeling that she would one day become a teacher in some capacity, and she was right. In college, she majored in physical education and health at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1960 and began teaching physical education shortly after becoming a certified secondary teacher at Laurel High School in Maryland. In 1972, she earned a master’s degree in health education from the University of Maryland, which is what equipped her to transition from teaching physical education to teaching health at Laurel High School. Ms. Loftus loved her job. The highlight of her career has been the great relationships that she has fostered with her students over the years. She still keeps in touch with many former students, which brings her great joy.
Though she no longer physically teaches, Ms. Loftus is still active in the educational community. She is part of the Maryland Retired Teacher Association of Prince George’s County, the American Association of University Women, the National Education Association, and the Alliance for Health. She is also the current financial secretary at Laurel Presbyterian Church, where she has been since 1987. Additionally, she was an assistant tax accountant at Wakeley & Kline CPAs during tax seasons until 2019. As a testament to her success, Ms. Loftus has been featured in the 18th edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
