Mara E. Meyer, Educational Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of speech and language pathology, reading, and administration.
Ms. Meyer has always wanted to ensure that special needs children are granted the services and education they need to survive. She began her journey to professional success by enrolling at the University of Illinois, from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech and hearing in 1974 and a master’s degree in speech and language pathology in 1975. She later went back to school and received an EdD in educational policy and leadership from National Louis University in 2010 to pursue her administrative endeavors.
Ms. Meyer began working in 1975 as a speech and language pathologist in the Macon-Piatt Special Education District in Decatur, Illinois, and held this role for many years. During that time, she brought her services to numerous learning institutions, such as the Community Consolidated School District #59 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Adlai Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois, and the Lincolnshire-Prairie School District. From 1976 to 1987, she also acted as the reading specialist and learning disabilities coordinator for the Community Consolidated School District #59. In 1989, she took a position as an educational consultant for the American Guidance Service in Circle Pines, Minnesota. This role introduced her to administrative work, and she has stayed active in the field since then. Some of her roles were acting as the assistant principal and inclusion coordinator for Mundelein School District in Illinois from 1999 to 2001, and she was the principal education consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education from 2004 to 2006. Ms. Meyer is currently working as a consultant for the Special Education District in Lake County, Illinois. She has also been an adjunct professor at National Louis University since 2003.
As an active member of her professional community, Ms. Meyer is associated with the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association of Elementary Principals, and the National Family Partnership Network, among many other professional organizations. As a testament to her many achievements, she has been awarded the National Distinguished Service Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ms. Meyer has also been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women, as well as the 4th edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
