Gary Bryce, Head Softball Coach at Wayne State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in athletics.
With more than 55 years of professional experience, Mr. Bryce has been the head softball coach, a women’s basketball coach, and a member of the faculty at Wayne State University since 1984. Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was a teacher and coach at Royal Oak Public Schools from 1967 to 1985, and a teacher with Clawson Public Schools from 1965 to 1967. Earlier in his career, he was a teacher at St. Williams School from 1964 to 1965 and a member of the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh from 1963 to 1964.
Mr. Bryce was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an early age, having been an only child with working parents. He joined a local little league team and they won the Midget World Series, sparking a lifelong love of sports. He began coaching at the age of 16, helping to win another title. He found it difficult to go to college on his own and wanted to help other kids have opportunities he did not. He pursued an education with the University of Michigan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1963. He continued his studies with the school, earning a Master of Arts in 1975.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Bryce has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the National Education Association, the American Defense Preparedness Association, and the American Security Council. He has also been active with the International Platform Association, the Michigan Education Association, the Michigan Softball Association, and the Michigan High School Coaches Association. He is a member of the National Women’s Basketball Association, the National Softball Association, the National High School Coaches Association, and the Michigan High School Softball Association.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bryce has been recognized for his contributions. Named Wayne State University Softball Coach of the Year by the Great Lakes Interscholastic Conference and the Michigan High School Softball Coach of the Year, he is a fellow of the University of Pittsburgh. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
