Title: Special Education Educator
Location: Springfield, Missouri, United States
Sherry Chittenden has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
Ms. Chittenden became involved in her profession because when she graduated from college, she had plans to become either a secretary or a teacher. She decided it would be best for her to become a teacher, for when she had a family of her own, when school was out, she would have time to take care of them. In this respect, she pursued her own education at Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), earning a Bachelor of Science in 1972, and later an MEd at the institution in 1986. Ms. Chittenden received certifications in elementary education K-8, for the mentally handicapped K-12, for learning disabilities K-12, in behavioral disorders L-12 and in educational resource K-12.
Ms. Chittenden currently provides her skills and expertise as a substitute teacher with the Fordland R-III School District and New Covenant Christian Academy. She had previously worked full-time with the district from 2002 to 2016. Prior to this, she touched the lives of students at the Ozark R-VI School District, the Springfield Public School, the Green Valley State School, the Halfway R-III School District, the Morrisville School District and the Pleasant Hope R-VI School District. Ms. Chittenden was greatly inspired in her work by her mentor during college, Dr. Rivera. Dr. James Layton and Dr. Ruth Burgess were also sources of inspiration for her.
