Richard De George, University Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education and administration.

Dr. De George attended Fordham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in American civilization in 1954. He continued at the Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, with grande distinction, in 1955. From 1955 to 1957, he served in the United States Army as a lieutenant and additionally served in the United States Army Reserves as a captain from 1957 to 1963. Dr. De George returned to his higher education at Yale University, where he earned a Master of Arts in philosophy in 1958 and a PhD in philosophy in 1959. From 1972 to 2012, he worked as a university distinguished professor at the University of Kansas, and from 1988 to 2012, he served as a courtesy professor of business administration. In addition, he acted as the co-director for the International Center for Ethics in Business from 1991 to 2012, and served as both the co-director for the Center for Humanistic Studies from 1977 to 1982 and the center’s director from 1982 to 1983.

In addition to his primary professional pursuits, Dr. De George served as a Charles J. Dirksen visiting professor of business ethics to Santa Clara University in 1986, and a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Business at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland in 1985. He has found further success through his written work, authoring numerous books, including “The Ethics of Information Technology and Business” in 2003, “Academic Freedom and Tenure” in 1997, “Competing with Integrity in International Business” in 1993 and “The Nature of Limits of Authority” in 1986, among many more credits. Dr. De George has contributed as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Academic Ethics since 2002, the Journal of Business Ethics Education since 2002 and the Business and Society Review since 1999. Furthermore, he has been the recipient of myriad accolades and honors, including an Award in Recognition of a Career of Outstanding Scholarly Achievement in the Field of Business Ethics in 2011 and a Career Teaching Award from the Chancellor’s Club in 2010, among others. As a testament to his stature and success, Dr. De George has been featured in the 17th edition of Who’s Who in the World, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in the Midwest.
