Ms. Wood Simmons has always been interested in real estate, home economics and design. She worked as an apprentice home agent at the University of Kentucky in 1955, and in 1956, she graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in home economics education. She became the first home economics teacher hired at the Huntingburg School in Indiana, a position she held until 1957. Ms. Wood Simmons transitioned to Seneca High School, where she taught until 1960—with one of her pupils being the future journalist and television personality Diane Sawyer. Through her career, she was always passionate about working with young people and found that seeing children and teens build their self-confidence was a reward in and of itself. After her first child was born, she became a stay-at-home mom, returning to her career pursuits as a decorator at the Sherwin-Williams Company in 1983.
As a licensed real estate agent in the state of Kentucky, Ms. Wood Simmons has worked as a realtor at Shaker Realty and Auction Company since 1987. In addition, she has also held a position as a realtor at Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Bowling Green, Kentucky for 25 years. She is an active member of her church and community, serving on the beautification committee at the First Baptist Church in Russellville from 1985 to 1987. Ms. Wood Simmons is a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, the National Board of Realtors, the Kentucky Board of Realtors, and the Logan County Board of Realtors, among others. In the coming years, she plans to enjoy her family and her grandchildren.
