Title: Library Director
Location: North Bellmore, New York, United States
Marilyn L. Kappenberg, MLS, Library Director, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of library sciences.
Ms. Kappenberg has always had a love for learning, however, she did not want to become a teacher. This was what encouraged her to pursue a career as a state law librarian. In 1972, she graduated from Molloy College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and two years later, she received a Master of Library Science degree from Long Island University. Ms. Kappenberg’s education set her up for a long and successful career. Her first job after graduating was in the children’s department of the Hicksville Public Library. She was then promoted to head reformed librarian, and later to assistant library director. She stayed at the Hicksville Public Library from 1972 until 1995. She then worked as library director at Wantagh Public Library until 2001, and then relocated to Plainedge Public Library in Massapequa, New York. There, she was library director until 2017.
The highlight of Ms. Kappenberg’s career was receiving a grant for the workforce center and the multicultural center in Hicksville, New York. Grant writing has been a prominent achievement in her career, as it has brought in money to fund the purchase of computers for individuals seeking jobs who otherwise would not have internet access. Ms. Kappenberg is a member-at-large of the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce. She has also been active in the American Library Association and the Nassau County Library Association. As a testament to her success, Ms. Kappenberg has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, and the 22nd edition of Who’s Who in the World.
