Charlotte Youngberg, Retired Director of Special Education at Verona Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.

As a young child, Dr. Youngberg’s parents taught her about the dictionary. Soon thereafter, she began studying the dictionary on her own, later realizing that she had an interest in education. Through the support of her parents and family members, she applied and earned a scholarship to attend the University of Northern Iowa, further securing a Bachelor of Education in elementary education in 1958. Subsequently, Dr. Youngberg began her career as an elementary school teacher at Des Moines Individual School District for a year. She later joined Glenview Public Schools as an elementary school teacher for two more years before leaving to become an elementary teacher and a psychological educational diagnostician for Schaumburg District Schools in 1961.

After eight years, Dr. Youngberg departed from Schaumburg District Schools and accepted the position of supervisor for learning disabilities and behavior disorders with Springfield Public Schools from 1969 to 1973. During this time, she also furthered her education and secured a Master of Education from DePaul University in 1966, while receiving certifications in elementary supervising, special education teaching, and supervising in guidance counseling. As she progressed through her career, Dr. Youngberg held the posts of a special education teacher, an educational strategist, and a psycho-educational diagnostician through Illinois, before retiring as the director of special education for Verona Public Schools in 1995. In addition to her primary endeavors, she also earned a Doctor of Divinity in Christian counseling, a Doctor of Theology, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology, all from the Christian Bible College and Seminary Independence between 2000 and 2005. With those degrees came the establishment of several private businesses including Youngberg Chapel, Youngberg, Youngberg Ranch, the Youngberg Water Company, and the Youngberg Cemetery. When Dr. Youngberg has spare time, she enjoys playing the organ, reading, quilting, sewing, and traveling.
