Harry Frech, Professor of Economics and Technology Management at the University of California Santa Barbara, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in economics education.
Currently, Dr. Frech shares his expertise as both a professor of technology management at the University of California Santa Barbara’s College of Engineering, and as a professor of economics in the university’s department of economics. In addition to this position, he holds numerous further posts, including serving the Petris Center for Health Care Markets at the University of California Berkeley as an affiliated faculty member since 2012, and as a member of the center’s advisory board since 1999. Furthermore, Dr. Frech is an adjunct scholar of the American Enterprise Institute and a member of the advisory board for the American Antitrust Institute.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Frech attended the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering in 1968. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of California Los Angeles, where he received a Master of Arts in economics in 1970 and a PhD in economics in 1974. Throughout his career, he has contributed his services as a consultant to various organizations, including the United States Department of Health and Human Services in 2008 and the Center for Naval Analysis from 1999 to 2001. Dr. Frech garnered experience as an adjunct professor at the United States Naval Postgraduate School in 1976, and later at the Paris Institute of Political Studies from 1994 to 2007.
As a prolific author, Dr. Frech has contributed to myriad published works. He currently serves as a member of the editorial board for both “Regulation” and the International Journal of Health Care Finance and Economics. Previously, he contributed as an editor for Health Economics and Public Policy and “Health Care in America: The Political Economy of Hospitals and Health Insurance.” Dr. Frech co-authored “Predatory Pricing and the Ninth Circuit The Antitrust Litigator” in 2008, “Health Care Matters: Pharmaceuticals, Obesity, and the Quality of Life” in 2004 and “The Productivity of Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals: An International Comparison” in 1999. He also authored “Competition and Monopoly in Medical Care” in 1996.
Dr. Frech maintains affiliation with myriad professional organizations, including the American Economic Association, the International Industrial Organization Society, the American Law and Economics Association, the American Antitrust Institute and Academy Health. He became involved in his profession after taking his first economics course in college—originally, he planned to pursue a career in engineering, but he found economics to be more engaging. As a testament to his success and stature, Dr. Frech has been selected for inclusion in the 27th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
