Maryalice Witzel, Paramedic Educator and Emergency Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a clinical nurse and medical educator.
Ms. Witzel began her nursing career as a staff float nurse at the Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1968. She accepted a position as a charge nurse in the emergency department at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1970. In 1974, she worked as a school nurse for one year in the Council Bluffs Public School System. After spending a year as a charge nurse in the emergency department at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, Ms. Witzel leveraged her experience as a paramedic instructor and clinical coordinator at the institution from 1976 to 1980. Following her departure, she spent five years as a staff nurse in the emergency department of the Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. While at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, she took a post as the Central Area Coordinator-Paramedic Instructor from 1987 to 2000.
From 2001 until her retirement in 2014, Ms. Witzel served as the disaster chairman at the Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix, and in addition to her primary professional pursuits, she built a prolific career as a nursing educator for numerous organizations. From 1980 until 2014, she worked as a Paramedic instructor for the Phoenix Community College system. Ms. Witzel has contributed to the American Heart Association as an affiliate faculty member for Basic Life Support and Advanced Life support.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Witzel earned a diploma in nursing from the Lincoln General Hospital in 1968. From 1973 to 1977, she attended Iowa Western Community College and Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. In 2003, Ms. Witzel graduated from Excelsior College with a BSN, and in 2008, she concluded her higher education, graduating from Midwestern University, Glendale, Arizona with a Master of Science in bioethics. She also holds myriad professional certifications, including certification as an instructor of paramedics, basic life support, advanced cardiovascular life support, emergency nursing and wilderness emergency medical training.
