Patricia Heller, Elementary School Educator (Retired), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of religious education.

Growing up, Ms. Heller was largely inspired by her teachers, and as she went into catechism in the summer after fourth grade, she found nuns that were very helpful and supportive of her decision to go into teaching. Combined with the leadership inspiration she received from her 4H teacher, Louise Kyle, she easily made the choice to build a career in teaching. Ms. Heller pursued her own education at Bloomsburg University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1972, a Master of Science in elementary education in 1986, and a Master of Science in education in reading in 1987. She also became a certified reading specialist.

Now retired from teaching, Ms. Heller worked as an elementary teacher and a reading specialist for the Crestwood School District in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania. She excelled in the positions of a teacher at St. Mary’s and a reading recovery teacher leader at Shippensburg University, and she currently devotes her time as a caregiver for her mother and tutors a few students to help them continue their education. Outside of her immediate professional responsibilities, Ms. Heller was an active member of the National Education Association, the International Reading Association, and the Pennsylvania State Education Association, among other organizations. Of her myriad accomplishments, she is very proud of the support she has received from her husband and family throughout her career, as well as the pride her parents had when she received her master’s degree. For those aspiring to work in her profession, Ms. Heller advises them to remain dedicated to their students, no matter what.
