June Carpenter, Retired Educator for the Elmore County School System, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary education and educational administration.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Carpenter studied at the University of Montevallo and transitioned to Auburn University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1974. She was certified as a Class A Elementary Teacher in the state of Alabama and started as an elementary school teacher in the Elmore County School System in 1974, where she worked until 1980. Ms. Carpenter continued her academic pursuits, completing postgraduate coursework at Auburn from 1976 to 1977, and started as a teacher at the First United Methodist Church Kindergarten in 1981. From 1982 to 1983, she served as an assistant director at the school, continuing her education at Troy State University and earning a Master of Science in education in 1989. Ms. Carpenter worked as an elementary reading and math teacher for the Elmore County School System until 1995, and from 1995 to 2002, she served as the coordinator of the Writing to Read program.
Ms. Carpenter continued to serve the Elmore County School System in various roles, working as the chairman of the Accreditation Steering Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools from 1997 to 2008 and as the Title I building chair from 2001 to 2008. From 1999 until her retirement in 2008, she worked as a reading teacher, and in her retirement, she served for several years as an international officer and international executive board chairman for Alpha Delta Kappa. From 2016 to 2019, Ms. Carpenter has acted as president of the Alabama-West Florida Conference UMC board of trustees. She has been recognized for her excellence with numerous awards, including the Elmore County School System Teacher of the Year in 2000. As a further testament to her success, stature, and experience, Ms. Carpenter has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in American Education.
