Datha Tickner, Associate Superintendent, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education administration, teacher evaluation, ESL programs and secondary curriculum.
As an associate superintendent, Ms. Tickner oversees eight schools in southeastern California. With her expertise and dedication, she is focused on ensuring students receive the best quality of care in their academic journeys. She extends this care to supervising instruction and teacher evaluations, international students, ESL programs and secondary curriculum. Ms. Tickner became involved in her profession because she knew from the time she was in third grade that she wanted to be a teacher. She was inspired by several teachers throughout her career, with one of her college professors being very instrumental. This professor told her she could positively impact the world as a teacher because she had that gift. While always knowing she wanted to make a difference, she was able to combine that passion with her love of children.
In order to pursue her academic aspirations, Ms. Tickner first earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education at Andrews University in 1983. She later continued her journey at La Sierra University, receiving a Master of Arts in leadership and administration. She is certified in teaching by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The highlight of Ms. Tickner’s career has been her role of being an agent of change. She could go into a situation and build up a program such as when she taught physical education where she raised the quality and the caliber of the classes. She later furthered her knowledge base by becoming credentialed in Business and Technology Education. With every place she has worked, she has always strived to make it better by the time she left. Ms. Tickner sees her five years as vice-principal as one of the biggest influences on honing managerial skills. She learned how to manage people and supervise instructions. She also had many accomplishments as a principal.
Ms. Tickner has worked in her current position since 2018. Prior to that, she served as a principal, vice-principal and physical education teacher at Loma Linda Academy for a total of 11 years, as principal of Orangewood Academy for 6 years and from 1985 to 2001, was a teacher with the Monterey Bay Academy. Since 2008, she has supplied her skills and expertise as an adjunct professor at La Sierra University. With her position as associate superintendent, she has maintained affiliation with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Looking toward the future, Ms. Tickner endeavors to continue changing the lives of students and aspires to do so at the superintendent level.
