Chaomin Luo, Associate Professor at Mississippi State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of electrical engineering.
Initially interested in robotics research and helping people during disaster relief efforts, Dr. Luo decided to use his expertise in electrical and computer engineering to contribute to the economic system and make it more efficient. He pursued an education at Southeast University in China, earning a Bachelor’s in electrical engineering before obtaining a Master of Science in engineering systems & computing from the University of Guelph in Canada. Dr. Luo concluded his education by earning a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Having served as a panelist for the U.S. Department of Defense, and NSF GRFP program, he began his career as a research electronics engineer and director at the Northwest China Electric Power Research & Testing Institute before becoming an electronics designer in Singapore. After moving to Canada, Dr. Luo excelled in the positions of a research assistant at the University of Guelph, and a research assistant at the University of Waterloo.
Currently, Dr. Luo is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University after having served as an assistant and associate professor at the University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan from 2009 to 2018. Additionally, he is the chairman of the education committee and the chairman of the computational intelligence chapter for the IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section. Professional publications to his credit include “Scientific Programming towards a Smart World,” “Robotics and Automation in Agriculture,” and “Theory and Applications of Bio-inspired Neural Intelligence for Robotics and Control.” As an active senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), Dr. Luo has received a number of awards, such as the Best Paper Award at the IEEE-ICIA 2017 Conference and several Faculty Research Awards from the University of Detroit Mercy. He is the Associate Editor in 2019 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IEEE-IROS’2019). He is the Tutorials Co-Chair in 2020 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (IEEE-SSCI’2020). He was the General Co-Chair of the 1st IEEE International Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Smart Technologies (IEEE-CIST’2015), and Journal Special Issues Chair, 2016 IEEE 2016 International Conference on Smart Technologies (IEEE-SmarTech), Cleveland, OH, USA. He was the Program Co-Chair in 2018 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation (IEEE-ICIA’2018). Looking forward, Dr. Luo hopes to push the field of robotics to higher levels and inspire the future.
