Crystal Burgos Johnson, English Teacher at Duncan Fletcher High School has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

At a young age, Ms. Johnson knew she was destined to become a teacher. Upon receiving a scholarship to attend college, she secured a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of Florida in 1975. Soon thereafter, she joined the Duval School Board as a Title I Lead, further progressing to a primary specialist until her departure in 1988. During this time, she additionally received a Master of Arts from Jacksonville University in 1981 and a specialist degree in administration and educational research and evaluation from the University of Florida, in 1990.

Ms. Johnson was later hired by Duval County School, where she completed administrative training and became a teacher, between 1989 and 2004. Furthermore, she held the posts of a reading coach, an assistant principal of curriculum, and an instructional coach with the organization, from 2004 to 2011. Currently, Ms. Johnson is an English teacher at Duncan Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, Florida. Achievements to her credit include establishing one of the first learning labs in Duval Country for the Title I program at S.A. Hull Elementary School.

As a primary specialist, Ms. Johnson was proud to have been responsible for expanding the program to include necessary assessments for students entering pre-kindergarten, and for authoring three funded grants that successfully increased student learning. She also operated an “IBM Write to Read Lab” for pre-k and kindergarten students. For her accomplishments in her career, Ms. Johnson has been recognized by Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities, Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americas, and the Educational Honorary Society.
