Title: Special Education High School Teacher
Company: Grand Canyon Unified School District #4
Location: Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States
Betheny Frechette, Special Education High School Teacher at Grand Canyon Unified School District #4, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
When Ms. Frechette was a teenager, she had some medical problems and because of that, she was placed in special education in college. This experience fostered a desire to want to help students in special education because she knew exactly what they were dealing with in their education. She stayed in special education for a long time, and just this year, she returned full-time to her career in special education. In preparation for her career, Ms. Frechette matriculated at Northern Arizona University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and teaching in 1996, and an MEd in special education and teaching in 2000. She is currently working towards receiving an EdD in education leadership and expects to graduate with her doctorate in 2020.
The highlight of Ms. Frechette’s career is seeing the “ah-ha” moment her students have when they first understand a concept. She strives to help her students drive forward and work past obstacles, and she believes in working by the phrase “just keep swimming.” She started her career as a kindergarten and special education teacher and later became a second-grade special education teacher. In 2016, she accepted a position as a teacher in Sedona, Arizona. A year later, she became a high school special education teacher for the Grand Canyon Unified School District #4 and remains in that position to this day. In the coming years, Ms. Frechette is working towards becoming a special education director. The current director is planning to retire next year, and is helping her prepare to step into the position. In her spare time, Ms. Frechette enjoys swimming, hiking and reading.
