Mr. Schmitz studied at St. Francis Seminary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. In 1975, he became a Chartered Life Underwriter of the American College of Life Underwriters, and in 1992, he began working as the president of his own agency, the John Schimtz Agency, in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He is most proud of his writings, which include “A Funny Thing Happened On My Way Out of Church,” “JoAnn: In Search of N.E.D.,” and “You’re Not the One Who Died.” He also wrote “More Than Brick and Stone,” a history of the St. Mary’s Church, in 1966, which is now located in the museum in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin.
In 1994, Mr. Schmitz started working as an instructor at Hondros College in Columbus, Ohio. He remained with the college until 2003, and since 2002, he has worked as the president for Food for the Hungry Inc. From 1988 to 1992, he was a member of the Elmbrook School Board, and during his tenure, the school was named an Outstanding School District by the State of Wisconsin. Mr. Schmitz has developed insurance courses for continuing education, and from 2003 to 2004, he worked as a consultant at Bryant and Stratton College. For his service to his community, he has been recognized with a Medallion Award for Community Service by the state Knights of Columbus. As a further testament to his success and stature, Mr. Schmitz has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America.
