David Moore, Retired Dental Professor and Department Chairman at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of dentistry education.
Dr. Moore earned a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University in 1949. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1955, and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and started working as an assistant professor of dentistry at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry in 1958. He became a teaching fellow in 1961 and rose to the rank of associate professor in 1963. In 1964, Dr. Moore earned a Master of Science and a Master of Arts from Mizzou and became a full professor and chairman of the department of restorative dentistry at UMKC, where he went on to work for more than 40 years, until his retirement in 2008.
Dr. Moore has authored numerous articles in professional journals, wrote a chapter for a textbook, and served as a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Over the course of his career, he presented continuing education courses in 43 states and was a consultant to multiple Veteran’s Affairs hospitals across Kansas and Missouri. He was awarded the UMKC Dental Alumnus of the Year in 2008, the UMKC Elmer Pearson Outstanding Teacher Award in 1989, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1995. As an additional testament to his stature and success as a dentistry educator, Dr. Moore received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 1984, an Award of Merit from the Florida Dental Society, and a Certificate of Appreciation for Contribution to Continuing Education from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
