Jon Nelson, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Pennsylvania State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of economics research and education.

Dr. Nelson started his higher education at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1964 and a Master of Science in 1967. During his studies, he worked as a research assistant and research fellow at the university, before earning a PhD in 1970 and starting as a professor of economics at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Nelson took on the additional role of director of graduate studies for the department of economics in 1986, which he held until 1993, and he continued his work as a professor until 2004, when he took on the title of professor emeritus, which he holds to this day. He cites several of his graduate professors at the University of Wisconsin—Leonard Weiss, Richard Day, Arthur Goldberger, and Yan Kmenta—as mentors in his career.

In addition to his work as an educator, Dr. Nelson served as a consultant for the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General from 1983 to 2006. He spent a year as a consultant to Leigh-Fisher Associates in 2008 and worked as a consultant for the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking from 2012 to 2017. He is a member of the American Economic Association and has authored myriad published works, including “Economic Analysis of Transportation Noise Abatement” in 1978 and “Industrial Organization” in 2003. Since taking on the title of professor emeritus, he has continued to be professionally active and has published over 40 new works since 2004. As a testament to his stature, expertise, and experience as an educator, Dr. Nelson has been featured in the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
