Joan Tatum, Retired Secondary and Adult Education Instructor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

Ms. Tatum studied at the University of Florida, earning an Associate of Arts in 1954. After working in various administrative and secretarial roles for public and private organizations, she started as a substitute teacher for public schools in Sarasota, Florida in 1966. In 1969, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida and took on a role as a business and vocational education teacher for both the Sarasota County Technical Institute and Riverview High School. She continued her education, earning a Master of Arts in 1971. In 1979, Ms. Tatum left the Sarasota County Technical Institute, continuing to work for Riverview High School for more than 30 years. In 1996, she rose to the rank of instructional technology facilitator, a position she held until 2002. From 1988 to 1998, she worked for several years as an adjunct professor for the University of St. Francis, and in 1998, she taught a computer health course at National Louis University.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. Tatum has been a member of many professional organizations. She is a member of the International Society of Business Educators, National Business Education Association, American Vocational Association, International Society for Technology in Education, and the Florida Association for Computers in Education, among others. She was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award from Riverview High School in 1991 and was initiated into Alpha Delta Kappa in 1979. She advises aspiring educators to band together with their colleagues and believes that education is the most important thing to offer to the world. As a testament to her success and stature as an educator, Ms. Tatum has been included in the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in America.
