Patricia Robertson, Retired Assistant Professor at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in language education.

Ms. Robertson initially wanted to become a nurse, due to her love for nursing. Turning her interests into a reality, she began her career with Shipman Nursing Home in Weston, Ohio, in 1951. She stayed with the company for eight years, before joining St. Joseph’s Hospital as a nurse from 1960 to 1962. While working this appointment, she served as a nurse for Aston Park Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, as well as a dental assistant and receptionist with Dr. C.A. Pless Junior in Asheville. Soon thereafter, she worked as a secretary for the Louis Round Wilson Library and the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, between 1964 and 1967, while earning a Bachelor of Arts from Western Carolina College in 1964.

After briefly teaching English at Guy B. Phillips Junior High School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Ms. Robertson became an assistant professor of English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1968. Furthermore, she held that post for 36 years, later retiring in 2004. During this time, she secured a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina in 1969 and completed postgraduate coursework at Louisiana State University between 1973 and 1975. In addition to her primary endeavors, Ms. Robertson was a real estate agent for Lafayette Realty for 14 years, served as a member of the University of Southwestern Louisiana Faculty Senate since 1972, and has contributed to a number of career-related conferences. Civically, she has been active with the American Institute for Cancer Research, the Louisiana Junior Beta Club, Winds of Change Benefit for Children’s Shelter, and the Kitchens Creek Baptist Church in Ball, Louisiana. A regular contributor of articles to professional journals, Ms. Robertson maintains professional affiliation with several organizations including the American Association of University Professors, the South Central Modern Language Association, and the Popular Culture Association, among others.
