Janet Lane, Retired Elementary School Educator at Sacramento City Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of music education.
As a student, Ms. Lane attended California Lutheran University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. She earned a standard secondary teaching credential from California State University in 1969, and began working as an elementary teacher at Gloria Dei Lutheran School. In 1970, she began serving as the organist for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, which she continued for more than 30 years, until 2002. In 1982, Ms. Lane transitioned to a position as an elementary music specialist at Sacramento City Unified School District, and in 1987, she earned certifications in Orff Schulwerk Levels I, II, and III from the University of California Santa Cruz. Continuing to pursue further education, she earned a Crosscultural, Language and Academy Development (CLAD) certification from California State University in 1996.
In 2001, Ms. Lane earned a Master of Science and preliminary administrative credential from National University, and additionally served as the chorus director of Sierra Mount Music Camp. She continued working as an elementary music specialist until her retirement in 2008, and served as a singer with Doreen Irwin Singers from 2011 to 2016, including two performances at Carnegie Hall. Ms. Lane is a member of the National Association of Professional Women, the California Retired Teachers Association, the California Music Educators Association, and the National Audubon Society. She received a VHI Save the Music grant in 2002 and 2005, and additionally was the recipient of an Honorary Service Award. Currently, she serves as the organist for the Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd.
