Douglas Riddle, Choral Music Educator at Coconino High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Coming from a lineage of educators, Mr. Riddle felt becoming a teacher was an honorable profession. A singer and band musician in high school, he received a scholarship to college for music. Moreover, he attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in 1973. Consequently, he joined East Union High School in Manteca, California, as a choral music education for four years, later accepting the same position with Lodi High School in Lodi, California, from 1977 until 1989. Moreover, Mr. Riddle secured a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from Northern Arizona University in 1991 and continued his career as a choral music educator for Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Arizona, until his departure in 2013.
In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Riddle was proud to have taken one of his classes at Lodi High School, to Europe to compete in an international competition. In 1989, he was also gratified to have his choir class sang in Carnegie Hall, with John Rutter as the conductor. He is most pleased with the number of former students of his that are now music educators themselves. Mr. Riddle considers himself fortunate enough to have such outstanding students throughout his career. Civically, he has served as a member of the Lodi Art Commission in California for two years and acts as the board president of the Flags Light Opera Company since 2018.
For his achievements in the field, Mr. Riddle has been the recipient of numerous accolades including the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Teaching Music Award in 1995 and the George C. Wilson Leadership Award in 1998, among others. An exceptional Marquis listee, he was presented the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. In his spare time, he enjoys sports and community theater.
