Larry McCann, Music Educator and Church Musician at Temple Baptist Church, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.

Mr. McCann started as a music and youth director at First Baptist Church in 1974. In 1976, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Southeast Missouri State University, and in 1977, he took on a position as music and youth director at Red Star Baptist Church. He started as a private guitar teacher at Three Rivers Community College in 1979, and for more than 30 years, he worked as an elementary school music teacher at Doniphan Elementary School, from 1979 to 2011. Beginning in 1982, Mr. McCann spent five years as music and youth director at Calvary Baptist Church, and since 1987, he has worked as the music director for Temple Baptist Church. In 2003, Mr. McCann earned a Master of Arts in educational administration from William Woods University.

In addition to his work as a music educator, Mr. McCann also owns Luke and Mollie Music, and served as the professional development chairman in Doniphan R-I School District for more than a decade, from 1993 to 2005. He has been an active member of his community outside of his church, working as the commissioner of planning and zoning for the city of Poplar Bluff in 1982. He also conducted the bicentennial choir for the Gideon Bicentennial Committee in 1976, and was awarded the Community Service Award from the Missouri National Guard in 1991, the Outstanding Contributor award from the DARE and Drug Consortium in 1993, and the MSTA Educator of the Year Award in 2010. As a testament to his dedication, service, and excellence as an educator, Mr. McCann was featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Education, and Who’s Who in America.
