Stephen Easton, William T. Schwartz Professor of Law at the University of Wyoming College of Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal education.
Mr. Easton earned an Associate of Arts from Northland Community College in 1978, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Dickinson State University in 1980. He continued his higher education at Stanford University, earning a JD in 1983. Mr. Easton was licensed to practice law in North Dakota in 1983, and the United States District Court of North Dakota in 1984. He was licensed to practice law in the Eighth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals in 1990, was admitted to the Montana State Bar in 1994, and was admitted to the Missouri State Bar in 1998. Mr. Easton held various legal positions, working as a law clerk for the North Dakota Attorney General, then as a law clerk for the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals, eventually becoming a partner at Pearce Durick PLLC and a U.S. attorney for the District of North Dakota.
In 1998, he started his career in higher education as an associate professor at the University of Missouri School of Law. During his next eight years as an educator, Mr. Easton earned several awards, including the First Annual Warren E. Burger Prize from the American Inns of Court, and the Richard S. Jacobsen Award for Excellence in Teaching Trial Advocacy from the Pound Civil Justice Institute. In 2006, he became a C. A. Leedy professor at the University of Missouri School of Law. In 2009, Mr. Easton became the dean of the University of Wyoming (UW) College of Law, where he served until 2013. He is currently the William T. Schwartz professor of law for the university and earned the Most Outstanding Professor award from the UW College of Law in 2018 and 2019. Mr. Easton’s family has a generations-long history of educational work, and he boasts decades of experience, stature, integrity and dedication as a legal educator.
