Jonniepat Mobley, Retired Theater Director and Professor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater direction and education.
Dr. Mobley began her higher education at Mount St. Mary’s College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1962. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in English from California State University, Los Angeles, in 1964, and a PhD in English, with a specialty in drama, from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1974. While pursuing her degrees, Dr. Mobley worked as a lecturer at Mount St. Mary’s College from 1962 to 1967, and a full professor at West Los Angeles College from 1969 to 1978. In 1981, she started her career as a director, working for Parish Players until 1982, when she worked as the director for Mission Players. In 1985, she began her decade-long career at Cuesta College as a taught speech instructor. She later achieved success as the chair of the theater department, where she worked until 1996.
In addition to her success as an educator, Dr. Mobley was the director of the Cuesta Company of Players from 1990 to 1996, and the director of St. Peter’s Readers Theatre from 1990 to 2015. She is a member of the Melrose Actors Theater, and has served as president of the Friends of the Los Osos Library Board. Through her career as a theater director and educator, she has published multiple creative works, including authoring “Dictionary of Theater and Drama” in 1992, “Play Production Today!” in 1995. Dr. Mobley also worked as the writer and director of several radio plays, including Nursery Crimes and Snug Harbor in 1981. She finds the most rewarding aspect of her career to be the relationships she has built with students, both from her time at Mount St. Mary’s College and from her neighborhood theater activities. Her body of experience, expertise, and dedication to her craft solidify Dr. Mobley as an esteemed member of both her local community and the broader theater community.
