Tracy Breton, Journalist and Journalism Professor at Brown University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in journalism.

Ms. Breton became involved in her profession to tell compelling stories that weren’t being told, effect change and interact in a meaningful way with people from all different walks of life. She first pursued this dream at Syracuse University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science, magna cum laude, in 1973. Since then she has commanded a career in the field that has encompassed both writing and education. Her most recent positions include being a visiting professor in the Department of English and in public policy at Brown University and working as a freelance writer, which she has been doing since she graduated from college. In addition, Ms. Breton worked as an investigative reporter at the Providence Journal from 1991 to 2013, and as a reporter in legal affairs at the Journal from 1973 to 2013. Earlier in her career, she taught at Providence College and the University of Rhode Island.

Ms. Breton is proud of a lot of things she did in her career, which include being part of a team of reporters that won the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 1994. She won a master reporter’s award, which is given to one reporter a year in New England in 1995. Furthermore, she is proud of the students that she has taught as they did a groundbreaking series on elder abuse and the Providence Journal nominated them for a Pulitzer Prize in 2019. Ms. Breton’s work has been featured in the New York Times, New Woman Magazine and many other professional and popular publications. She has maintained affiliation with various organizations throughout her career, including the United States Tennis Association, Doggid, the Rhode Island Supreme Court Committee on Cameras in the Courtroom, Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
