Peter Armacost, Academic Administrator and President Emeritus of Forman Christian College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration.
Dr. Armacost became involved in academic administration and becoming president of the Froman Christian College due to his upbringing with a relative who was college president for 25 years. This influence, along with hard work and taking on opportunities, prepared him for the position. He served as president of this institution from 20002 to 2012, attaining president emeritus status upon his retirement. In addition, he served as president of Eckerd College from 1977 to 2000, attaining emeritus status in 2000. Prior to these positions, Dr. Armacost was president and professor of psychology at Ottawa University in Kansas, program director of the Association of American Colleges and Dean of Students and Chairman of the Department of Psychology at Augsburg College.
In pursuit of his goals, Dr. Armacost first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in 1957. He received a PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1963, and later earned an Honorary LLD from Ottawa University in 2011. For his work, he has received a Distinguished Alumnus Citation at Denison University, named to the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. Furthermore, he was selected as a Woodrow Wilson fellow and as a Danforth fellow. He credits his success with his ability to select first-rate people as members of his team, and then creating an environment in which they could perform to the best of their ability. Early in his career, he developed a personal mission statement that governed his approach to his experiences and opportunities as a college and university president. His personal mission is to develop educational programs that enable students to develop their God-given talents to the optimal degree and to become informed, ethical and responsible citizens who are prepared and committed to learn, lead and serve.
